What kind of Church is
Zearing Christian Church?

Our purpose-
Zearing Christian Church has a long and rich history within the Zearing area. We were organized in 1885 for the purpose of ministering to the Spiritual, physical, emotional needs of all people. Our Church still has that as our goal!

Our history-
The Christian Church movement, of which we are a part, traces it’s heritage back to the early 1800's when denominations were greatly divided and separate from one another. From the frontier in the East, churches which use the name "Christian" began and spread throughout America and the world.

Our focus and status as a Church-
Our focus is on Jesus as denominational labels tend to divide the Body of Christ. It is our belief that Churches should seek to unite God's people by recognizing the interdependent nature of all of God’s people and Churches regardless of the name.

As a non-denominational Church we are autonomous with no hierarchy or denominational control over the Zearing Christian Church. This means that we, as a local body of Christians, are self-governed and determine our own affairs based upon the Word of God. For example: we choose our leaders; own our building and assets; determine the programs and direction of the Church; and select those ministries which we support, such as missionaries and other agencies which serve the cause of Christ.

Our quest for unity-
From the beginning, the Christian Church movement has sought to establish unity among its Churches and with Churches from other groups. While we are independent, we as a body of people, are, "Christians only, but not the only Christians" who desire to seek what Jesus prayed:
"I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:22-23, NIV)
Unity requires that we allow for differences of understanding on matters of preference which are not clearly spelled out in the Scriptures, as described within the principals located in Romans chapter fourteen. On those matters we believe that we should agree to disagree letting love be our guiding force.
